Château Maurac HAUT MEDOC

Haut-Médoc, Cru Bourgeois.
This Château situated at the heart of the Médoc is partly owned by Claude Gaudin, whom we know well (he is also a partner in other estates). Its vineyards, which are wonderfully situated, give a classy and structured wine, with surprisingly ripe tannins. Shrewd consumers are well-advised to follow this cru bourgeois that is pushing the envelop of quality higher and higher.
From the 1998 vintage onwards, the estate proposes a special oak-aged cuvée produced in small quantities and called Les Vignes de Saint-Sauveur.



La Closerie de Malescasse HAUT MEDOC


The Château Malescasse is a prestigious Cru bourgeois created in 1824 . Its vineyards are excellently situated in the most elevated part of the village of Lamarque, between Margaux and Saint-Julien. La Closerie de Malescasse is its second wine.
The wines of the estate are regularly awarded medals in contests. In particular, La Closerie de Malescasse won a gold medal at the Concours Général de Paris for its 1998 vintage.



Château La Fleur Plaisance MONTAGNE SAINT EMILION

Saint-Emilion is situated on a plateau and surrounded by number of other villages, namely Montagne-Saint-Emilion.
The wines of Château La Fleur Plaisance, which are essentially merlot-based, will be a perfect match-up for a good steak and home-made French fries.



Château La Croix de Bert SAINT EMILION


This estate situated on the foothills of Saint-Emilion is organically farmed. Everything is done by hand, herbicides are not used, or only very sparingly, and the soils are ploughed.
The wines offer a wonderful expression of merlot ; they are round, generous and alluring, with aromas of violet.



Château Mesny de Boisseaux


This Saint-Emilion Grand Cru is a stable-mate of Château Roc de Boisseaux.
The wines here are aged in oak barrels, a process which enhances their ripe character. They go well with spicy foods or with cheese slightly sprinkled with pepper.



Château Montlabert SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU


It controls 12 ha of vines that are wonderfully situated amidst the best growths of Saint-Emilion.
The estate is a stone-throw away from Franc-Mayne, but its soils are much lighter. The wines are vinified by the same winemaking team that operates at Franc-Mayne. They are round and seductive. To put it briefly, let's say they are typical of Saint-Emilion in the sense that they are real " vins de plaisir ".

 



Château Marquey SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU

This small 7.5 acre-estate is situated at the foot of the Côte Pavie where the soils are rich and heavy, but benefit from a good drainage system. The wines produced here are powerful and can withstand ageing in 2 year-old oak casks that have formerly housed the second wine of Château Franc-Mayne. While still little-known and young, this wine is massive and promising.



Château Franc-Mayne SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU


This classified growth is situated on the very ancient hillsides of Franc, a historic spot of Saint-Emilion where vines were cultivated since Roman times.
The vineyards benefit from a high quality terroir and are essentially planted with Merlot and with a dollop of Cabernet Franc. The wines are aged in oak barrels. Since 1996, the Château Franc-Mayne is on the come-back trail and living up to its classification.



Les Cèdres de Franc-Mayne SAINT EMILION


The produce of the youngest vines of Château Franc-Mayne is blended into a second wine and aged in oak barrels (from the Allier region).
Les Cèdres de Franc-Mayne is ready to drink at a younger age than the Grand Vin, much to the delight of amateurs of Saint-Emilion.



Le " D " de Dassault SAINT EMILION


The " D " de Dassault is the second wine of the Château Dassault, which belongs to the well-known family of the same name. The estate is skilfully managed by Laurence Brun-Vergriette.
The " D " de Dassault is an extremely rich and big wine - a real " vin de plaisir ".



Château Deyrem-Valentin MARGAUX


This estate situated at the heart of Margaux is family-owned and animated by a family spirit. The wines are essentially composed of Cabernet Sauvignon to which the owe their fine structure.



Château Le Crock SAINT ESTEPHE, Cru Bourgeois


Le Crock belongs to our friends and colleagues, the Cuvelier family, since 1903. The vineyards are admirably situated on a hilltop overlooking the river and they are adjacent to those of Montrose and Cos d'Estournel.
They yield a generous Saint-Estephe that undergoes an 18-month elevage in oak barrels.



Château Moulin Riche SAINT JULIEN


Château Moulin-Riche, the second wine of Château Léoville-Poyferré, is culled out from vines situated at the very heart of the estate.
It benefits from the same winemaking and upbringing as its sibling. This elegant and classy wine will surely be appreciated by shrewd connoisseurs.



Château Léoville Poyferré SAINT JULIEN


A
great favourite of mine. After a difficult period in the 60s and 70s, this second classified growth of Saint-Julien came back on the trail in 1982, thanks to the work done here by Max Cuvelier and his two sons Didier and Olivier. Poyferré is as good in great as in lesser vintages. To visit the château's website, click on :

Monteney SAINT-JULIEN


A blend of very fine wines of the appellation, selected by the Count de Monteney. The wines of Château Saint-Julien are sold in 6-bottle wooden cases.

 

Monteney Margaux

A blending from the overproduction of the best chateau in the appelation Margaux controllée.
You can drink it now or keep it six months in your cellar
Perfect with cantonese cooking, cheese and T bone steak.
